Xinpu Township, Urban township in Hsinchu County, Taiwan
Xinpu Township is an urban township in Hsinchu County, in the northwestern part of Taiwan. It covers several villages where homes, small shops, and farmland sit side by side.
Xinpu was established as a local administrative unit during the Japanese colonial period and kept that role after Taiwan's handover in 1945. The structure was gradually adapted to serve the needs of a growing rural and semi-urban population over the following decades.
The scattered villages across the township are easier to reach by personal vehicle or local transit than on foot. Daytime visits work best for getting a clear sense of both the rural areas and the small local centers.
Xinpu sits close to the city of Hsinchu, which is known for its strong winds, and this same wind pattern reaches into the township. Local farming practices in the area have adapted over generations to account for these regular gusts.
