Chinatown, Restaurant district in Manchester, England
Chinatown is a restaurant district in Manchester city centre with Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese establishments spread across several connected streets. The rectangular neighborhood also contains Asian supermarkets, medicine shops, and banking services alongside its dining venues.
Chinese families first settled in Manchester in 1948 with the opening of a restaurant on Mosley Street. The neighborhood gradually expanded into the organized district visitors see today, with its gateway arriving in 1987.
The archway on Faulkner Street features traditional dragons and phoenixes carved in stone, marking the heart of the community. Visitors walking through notice how the neighborhood reflects both Asian heritage and modern British city life.
The neighborhood is easy to navigate on foot with all locations within walking distance of each other. Most restaurants open in the afternoon and stay open late, making evening visits ideal for seeing the area at its busiest.
Beyond the dining venues, the neighborhood contains several casinos tucked among the restaurants and shops. This blend of food, services, and gaming creates an unexpected mix that sets it apart from typical restaurant districts.
